Largest jail in canada (in terms of full capacity) 6 units with 32 inmates, unit essentially runs on its own, everything takes place within it. 35 inmates deemed medium security, slightly more freedom (gymnasium, weight room) Separate treatment centers for substance abuse or mental illness issues. All programs provided by volunteers (aa, anger management). 12 000 - 16 000 assaults per year (inmate on inmate) Numbers greatly reduced by being locked up during feeding hours. Lockdowns can be caused by serious assault, weapons information o. No luxury aspects available during lockdown (showers, etc. ) Tensions builds during lockdown (only essentials take place during lockdown, no visiting, etc. ) o o. All want control of inside drug trade, power struggles. Searching procedures discover some contraband but not all, so territorial issues arise o. However still done in areas they know don"t have cameras. Number one reason for arrest is narcotics (even other charges tied to drugs)
