Sociological perspectives provide general ways of conceptualizing the social world. Consists of abstract assumptions about the nature of human action and the character of social organization. Single perspective - only partial or one sided view but social life requires becoming familiar with several perspectives. Micro and macro perspectives - micro: orientated toward small time and small space, macro: oriented towards big time and big space. Micro - concerned with conduct of individuals and small groups as it unfolds in relatively small special context and over short duration of time. Macro - focus on large entities, entire societies and even global system. Based on five core ideas : 1. Stimulus responses suggests human behaviour: stimulus response. People actually interpret or assign meaning to the stimulus before they act : Ex: athletes response to coaches criticism can either be looked as critical or malicious.
