Document Summary
Racialization: the process of attributing complex characteristics to racial categories. Genetic differences do not determine significant behavioural or substantive biological differences. Minority group - any group that"s at a socially disadvantage. Racial purity - doesn"t exist since race is made of less than a quarter of 1% genetic makeup. And not the dash of neanderthal in us . Race doesn"t determine how one acts or behaves. Ethnic group: a collection of people who identify with each other. Based on shared culture, art forms, language, music, traditions, beliefs. Objective components: thing that we can see ie. language, religion. Subjective components: sense of belonging and shared beliefs (can"t see) How we identify ourselves and view ourselves in the world. Ethnicity is often linked to country of origin, but doesn"t have to be. Majority of first generation (parents not born but you are) are from one ethic origin. Third generation - highest amount of ethnic origins.
