Functionalism o o o o o o o o o o o. Schools function as social systems they both need to serve and reflect the values and interests of the society where they operate. To become future citizens that are able to function as workers. Schools maintain the equilibrium of social system in 2 ways: Allocation schools act as a sorting machine for future roles in the society training and sorting people to fulfill roles at all levels of the hierarchy. E. g. assigning grades, handing out certificates and diplomas (all will affect the kind of paid position to be obtained from a capitalist society) Socialization how to function and assimilate in the larger society not limited through formal curriculum, also includes hidden curriculum. Schooling serves the capitalist aims of profit and compliant workers. Instrumental in preparing future conformers for human development and progress.
