Intense culture of mothering and what this means for co-parenting . To understand mothering post-separation we must understand what it means to mother in our culture. A complex social issue with no easy solutions. In 1965 mothers were put in a week: paid hours 8, house work 32, child care 10 men paid work 42, house work 4, child care 2. 5. In 2011 mothers put in a week: paid hours 21, house work 18, childcare 14, fathers: paid work. Mothers are still always doing more work. Equally share of housework and childcare, makes for a much happier marriage. Child centered, expert-guided, emotionally absorbing, labour-intensive and financially expensive . Does not allow you out of the work force.
