Generativity: developmental task, sense that one is making valuable contribution to society by bringing up children/mentoring younger people. Those who fail to develop this = suffer in pervading sense of stagnation . Stage between intimacy and generativity called career consolidation = career can mean a paid vocation or decision to be stay at home parent. Results in creation of new social network, adults need to feel competent. After generativity vs. stagnation = keeper of the meaning (stage), preserving institutions and values of culture to pass on to future gen. Life events approach: focuses on normative events and how adults in this age group respond to them. New stressors dealt with so must develop new ways of coping.
