Experiencing stigma racial microagression; acts of racism aren"t overt all the time ie. lynching. Not 1 racial comment can ruin persons sense of worth, but daily comments. Stigma- living as an individual/ with an identity as someone who stands out from the mainstream features of people, negatively marked as disvalued, dangerous. Group who has privllege/power determines who else gets this power. Marked category; stigmatized ie. book written by white man, ppl wouldn"t say. Mention of status as non privilege group if a women were to win. Goffman; 3 stigmas that exist: things gross in body. Some seen as brought upon by yourself: behavior, association through group. If you have something temporary like broken limb, provided appreciation for those with the stigma long term. Stigmas can be ones that pass over time/last lifetime ie. gender. On average, less harmful but there is costs to concealing. Treated more sympathic over stigmas they have no control over ie. mental disorder.
