PSYCH 338 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Job Satisfaction, Theory Of Planned Behavior, Selective Perception
Document Summary
Job satisfaction is the most widely studied dimension. And negatively related to withdrawal behaviour (like being late or absent) The mental theory you have about why people are satisfied or not satisfied matters because it will cause you to intervene in different ways as our mental theories will determine our actions. Objective indicators (like how good someone is at their job) matters, but as does perceptions and it can be perception that means the best employee doesn"t get the promotion. The process through which people select, organize and interpret information about other people: this is important because we are bombarded with information and people in our environment. So we fall back on simplifications and heuristics to make the perception of our environment simple. Perceptual shortcuts and erros in judgements at work: primacy and recency effects. This is the overweighting impressions or recent cues.
