Context: psychiatrists can prescribe medications, clinical psychologists focus on psychological interventions, clinical psychologists have either an m. a, ph. d or psy. d, recent law allows for a transfer of degree across provinces. In alberta, you can become a clinical psychologist with an m. a. Etiology: what factors cause and contribute to the disorder, what factors contribute to the continuation of symptoms, examples: Ptsd initial cause is discontinued but triggers cause continuing symptoms , or, how the individual copes with psychological issues connected with the initial issue. Depression number of factor that cause it, but common reaction towards depression is to withdraw from normal activates. Withdrawal is a maintenance factor which also causes problem to persist. Treatment: many empirically based treatments have been developed; scientific practitioners engage in evidence based practice, treatment research currently focuses on : treatment optimization, primary prevention, relapse prevention, improving treatment via disseminating and access to it. Usual strategy is to identify vulnerable kids, or identify a universal application.
