Physical or verbal behaviour intended to hurt someone two types: hostile aggression = driven by anger and performed as end in itself instrumental aggression = means to some other end (ex; terrorism = have goal) Biochemical influences: alcohol, testosterone, poor diet, interaction of biology and behaviour. Alcohol: unleashes aggression when people are provoked, enhances aggression by reducing people"s self-awareness, it de-individuates testosterone: correlates with aggression, testosterone levels tend to be higher among convicted violent offences. Aggression as a response to frustration frustration-aggression theory: theory that frustration triggers a readiness to aggress frustration = blocking of goal-directed behaviour. Displacement = redirection of aggression to target other than source of frustration, new target usually safer/more socially acceptable target frustration-aggression theory revised: frustration doesn"t always lead to aggression (ex; when person makes amends, apologizes, etc. )
