36 views2 pages

Document Summary

Has some degree of processing so that the event has some way of storing itself inside your memory. Once it is in the mind, it must be available for later: retrieval access. Memory problems can occur at any of the three stages. Encoding problems: not all details are encoded, attention capacity and ability. May be result of substances like alcohol/ drugs. Can even be something as simple as being tired: focus of attention (issues) Storage problems: active, reconstructive process, integrated into network of related memories, narrative structure book. If a schema already exists, the only thing that needs to be stored is what is different from my previous experiences. Although it is easier to remember overall, much harder to remember detail. If you have no related memories, easier to recall details. Our memories have a narrative structure or a story. When you are thinking of something consciousness, you are likely thinking in a linear fashion; hence a story book.
