Document Summary

Recent reviews and meta-analyses of rj show: note: most studies not in canada, greater satisfaction with the process for both offenders and victims. Rather than courtroom process: greater offender compliance, lower rates of recidivism. Not everyone is a good candidate for rj procedures. Criticism: people who don"t recidivate are possibly always people who are open to change. No harm, but can get positive outcomes. Successful implementations of rj involve internal changes in the offender: not process that matters, process is the means, goal: you can get the internal changes in people, feelings of acceptance and request. Prof thinks that important thing is the absence of negatives. Not going to dehumanize and ostracize you for what you did: more personal responsibility. I have to do something about this : fair treatment. Willing to accept personal responsibility, but it was done fairly. Legal system is there for everyone to work together: restorative justice therefore needs everyone to work together.
