Started in biology, pravlov studied dog saliva, function, how it happened etc. Understanding of classical conditioning, needed to expand to operant conditioning. Pravlov interested in what made dogs spit made it a bio experiment when he connected salivary glands to test tubes, to measure spit making at diff times. Noticed when he put food in front of them they salivated. What was unusual - started to salivate when they could only hear his feat walking to them before they saw the food. Walk in with only the bowl, they still did. When he only walked they started to spit without food whatsoever. They learned that his footsteps meant that they were going to get food.
