William james is commonly referred to the father of psychology. He explains that psychology is the science of mental life. Dualism was a very common belief held by churches up until the early 1600s. Dualism was the idea that our entity as a whole is divided into two separate. The first is the material body and the other is the immaterial soul. The body follows the natural laws and can be studied, whereas the soul is immaterial and cannot be studied as easily.
