Personality: an individual"s characteristic patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviour persisting over time and across situations. Shyness as symptom: shyness is a defense mechanism of repression, shyness is displacement of dangerous grandiosity from elsewhere in patient"s life. In social situations, when a person behaves in a shy manner, it produced good or bad outcomes: conditioned response to particular environmental stimuli, however, shyness can be unlearned through positive reinforcement. Performance in a job: personality profile is a better predictor of job performance than interview.
