Document Summary
If you don t exercise or eat well you ll experience hearing loss as well. A person who takes good care of themselves is probably going to have better hearing. Older people don t realize they are losing their hearing they think that other people are whispering around them, and they may think they are talking about them. It s better to pitch your voice low when talking to older people, because they have trouble hearing higher frequencies. Meniere s disease: have too much fluid in your cochlea but also in your semi-circular canals . Can affect hearing and balance to a varying degree. It is characterized by episodes of vertigo, low- pitched tinnitus, and hearing loss. The hearing loss is fluctuating rather than permanent, meaning that it comes and goes, alternating between ears for some time, then becomes permanent with no return to normal function (from wikipedia). Effects of smoking: high frequency hearing loss they prematurely age their ear.
