Document Summary
Location of sound: two different cues are used and require the brain using comparisons 1. Inter-aural time differences: if something is coming from the right, it will hit the right ear before it hits the left and vice versa. Brain compares when the sound hits the left side and the right side first. If it hits them at the same time it means its either ahead or behind. Works better for low pitches rather than high (low frequency) since the distance between one peak to another is longer. Time differences between one peak and another is short in high pitch. Inter-aural intensity differences/inter-aural level differences: differences in loudness. If a sound is coming from the left side its louder on the left side than the right. If something is coming from straight ahead or straight behind it will be equal in loudness. Cue works better for high frequencies because for high frequencies your head casts a sound shadow.
