During the in-between years, the recording industry begins the transition from recording complete songs in a single take to the use of multitrack recording: multitrack recording did not catch on right away, hard to get it. Example: be my baby the ronettes, 1963 (barry, greenwich, spector: hard to pick out any instrument for more than a few seconds, drums and vocals are easier. Two other styles of music become important although neither fit the division of labour model. Woody guthrie: this machine kills fascists , labourers operate machines, his work is through music, use of work machine shows how he views himself, musicians but also part of labour movement to bring greater equality. The weavers: pete seeger: known for playing banjo. This land is your land (woody guthrie, 1940) Later 1950s/early 60s baby boom reaches college. Interest in serious music : folk musicians sounded great but were too old.
