The reaction makes individuals go even further into delinquency. Labeling theory focuses on why some young people move on to more serious delinquency. These acts of delinquency are caused by a wide variety of factors: labeling theory doesn"t care why you did it in the first place. Initial acts of delinquency are caused by a wide variety of factors. The primary factor in the repetition of delinquency is the fact of having been formally labeled as a delinquent: if youre not labeled you may not commit a crime again. Labeling theory is interested in why and how people are deviant. It focuses on the construction of deviance rather than its causes. Deviance comes from the social creation of rules that find some acts deviant: eg we find some things right or wrong and that is socially constructed. Our definition of deviance is universal: eg, different cultures, changes on the time, place.
