KIN428 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Tendinosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Slip Coach
Document Summary
Hand anatomy & mechanics & tendon & nerve disorders. Irritation/swelling of tendons on thumb side of wrist (radial) Pain over radial wrist, worse with forceful gripping or wrist turning, numbness on back of thumb and index finger due to nerve compression, catching with movement. Repeated motions of the wrist/thumb: gripping, pinching, wringing, squeezing, post-trauma, arthritic diseases. Conservative: modify activities, thumb-splice splint, anti- inflammatories, cortisone. Tunnel release, after healing will be larger passage. Valgus force to thumb, skiing, game keeping. Minor: splinting, major: surgical ligament repair (mp fusion if recurrent) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) Tenosynovitis = swelling and inflammation of the sheath that surrounds certain tendons. Common cause of pain and disability in the hand. Vibratory tools, repetitive hand movements, sustained gripping, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, diabetes mellitus. Stage 1: pain/discomfort around the a1 pulley on palmer aspect.
