Late in the third period, todd bertuzzi of vancouver followed steve moore of colorado around the ice, attempting to engage the latter in a fight. Moore"s jersey from behind and punched moore on the side of his head. Bertuzzi and other players from both teams landed on top of moore. Once the players were removed from the pile, moore remained lying on the ice for several minutes until he was removed with the help of a stretcher. As a result of this brutal incident, moore suffered three fractured vertebrae in his neck, a severe concussion, vertebral ligament damage, nerve damage, and facial cuts. To date, moore has not appeared in another professional hockey game.
