Grievance: a grievance is a complaint alleging a contravention /breach of the collective agreement. Individual grievance: is the most common and is filed by an employee regarding a specific issue or incident. ie. job. Group grievance: is filed by a group of individuals who feel aggrieved about the same issue. ie. overtime payment. Policy grievance: is filed by the union disputing the application of the cba that applies to the entire bargaining unit rather than individual employees. ie. department rules and regulations. The process gets a resolution fairly quickly as compared to other dispute resolution mechanisms. Is a formal mechanism that provides an opportunity for the parties to resolve disputes in the interpretation or application of the cba. Terms: rights arbitration: submitting those disputes for arbitration that arise over the interpretation of an existing agreement. If arising from a collective bargaining agreement, it is also called grievance arbitration.
