People are very influenced by others expectations and judgements is around. Study 1973- stanford: on the insane and insane places. Very driven to conform to the norm of some group which we identify. Deinstitutionalization - > out of mental institutions and into community based treatment centers. State something that might get them identified as mentally ill. Psuedopatients - > im hearing a couple words in my head - > hollow, empty, thug. People were supposed to get themselves out by proving they had no schizo. All but one were releases w/ schizo remission. Power of context to dictate how we perceive behaviour. Other patients able to see lack of illness. All of them flushed their meds, but no one knew what they were doing. Docs would not acknowledge that patients were feeling better. Said if someone is in pain and says they"re hearing words - > compassionate thing by taking them in.
