Emerging infectious diseases: diseases appearing in the human population for the first time or expanding rapiodly in incidence or geographic range. A pest species is one that humans consider undesirable, usually because it either harms us directly or damages or competes with our corps. Pesticides are most polluting when they are unselective and persistent, and when they biomagnify in food chains. Target pest resurgence occurs when treatment kills large numbers of the pest and its natural enemies. Biological control manipulates the natural enemies of a pest to control it. Importation biological control: imports a known natural enemy from another geographic area often where the pest originated.
