Theory: romance comics 1940-1950 designed to have a female audience and succeeded created by jack. Kirby and joe simon: post 1950 romance comics lost their popularity, betty and veronica still around. Sexualisation of women: tiajuanna bibles (represent the first comic book, was initially illegal, pornographic comics, created cultural sexual tensions) created tradition that women should be viewed sexually in comics. Roger sabin: reform over punishment (women want to heal the criminal men want to hurt the criminal) Batgirl and nightwing and softening batman, isolates herself (from her mother: becdale test how many female characters are involved, what they talk about other than men. Interest in relationships and character (interest in character more than action) ex. Tender moments, love triangle with batman and nightwing. Batgirl does not show much interest towards fashion and high social status, conscious of her position as a superhero: what lacks in superhero comics what women want to see.
