One of the bronze age civilizations, along with the mycenaeans (the first greek. Was not greek, just influenced the greeks. Minoans died out around 1400-1300bc, so by the time greeks were writing down mythology they were remembering the minoans. Famous story of zeus and europa: zeus looks down on the earth and sees an attractive girl and wants to seduce her, so he turned himself into a white bull with breath of roses. This was attractive to europa so she climbed on his back. He dove into the mediterranean sea and swam to crete. Minos and tauros which meant bull, since minos was half bull. There"s a story of the minotaur where the athenians were being forced by king minos to send 7-9 men and maidens to be sent to crete to be eaten by the minotaur in the labyrinth.
