The intervention of the sabine women: roman gods, less anthropomorphic. Tend to look at gods as powers of the universe. These powers had to be worshipped and honoured so they would give us rain, fertile fields etc: assimilated gods. Romans adopted more or less the stories of greek mythology. Eg. we have a god like jupiter their main gods were assimilated from greek gods though they did have some from their own origins: mars (ares): much more important to romans. Mars was more of an important god to the romans than ares was. Mars became the god of war, was originally a god of vegetation. Romans perceived the gods a different way than the greeks did: jupiter (zeus) eg. Indo-europeans tribes spread out in all directions have related languages spoken (greeks and romans spoke this) therefore they have related cultures.
