Alcmena gives birth to twins heracles (zeus) and iphicles (amphitryon) Strong and precocious; undertook tasks impossible for a baby. Zeus brags that heracles shall rule over all that dwell around him . Promises to be a great ruler among men. Hera is jealous and delays the birth of heracles and iphicles by speeding up the birth of eurystheus. Speeding up eurystheus" birth = hindering eileithyia"s time ( helper in childbirth ) Sthenelus" son eurystheus becomes the one who rule over all that dwell around him instead. Heracles has to serve eurystheus (12 labours) Different ver. of myth (hera"s rage and jealousy) Hera sends pair of snakes to kill heracles, however he strangles the snake as an infant.
