Document Summary

Nucleus is the diagnostic organelle of eukaryota. Connects with er membrane of the cytoplasm. Contains chromatin (dna and protein) and usually a nucleolus involved with protein synthesis. Er is a netework of interconnected membranes on which lipids and proteins are synthesized. Rough er has ribosomes which synthesize proteins, smooth er has no ribosomes and is the site of lipid synthesis. After er, they travel to the golgi body, which consists of flattened membranes. Golgi and er could have been made from membrane. Golgi complexes appear to mediate the modification, sorting, and transport of proteins within the cell. Cytoskeleton is a delicate array of protein filaments, anchors organelles, transport, and gives cells their shape, consists of microtubules and microfilaments. Eukaroytes are chimeras: fire breathing combination of lion, goat and snake. First signs of this is the mitochondria. Have their own prokaryotic dna reflecting their origin from endosymbiotic aerobic. Lots of surface are means lots of space to make atp.
