PSY 252 Lecture 21: PYSCH 252 - Lecture Apr 6
Document Summary
Not using vision to guide action, using your memory. Had subjects do a task where they had to pick up a block, move it around an obstacle then hit a button. They first did it with complete vision and researchers recorded the path of movement of the block. Also measured where the subjects were looking while doing each phase of the task, ex) locating block, moving block, hitting the button with the block. Found that eye movements are clustered at the tip of the block. Our eye movements strategically direct our movements to perform the task and gives us more accuracy. [memory task ] then had subjects come in, look at the setup of the experiment and then the lights went off and they had to pick up the bock and perform the same task but by memory. There is less accuracy, they overestimate where to go and then correct movements.
