NURS 205 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Canadian Nurses Association, Registered Nurse, Internal Validity
Document Summary
Research always begins wit a question, uses a specific methodology to answer that question. Uses aspects of the question to help effectively search for available evidence on the topic. Uses critical appraisal to know if you have found credible sources or not. Supports decision making as to whether credible research findings fit and will benefit current clinical practice settings and patient needs. Mobilizes relevant research results to improve or make strategic practice change happen. Three things for good einp: what the evidence tells you, the patient"s preferences or values, your baseline clinical expertise. Quantitative research is best for evaluating the effectiveness, safety, and cost effectiveness of interventions; accuracy of assessment measures; and strength of causal relationships: statistics and numbers are relevant. Qualitative research is best for understanding the meaning and phenomena of illness or patient experiences, attitudes and beliefs. When we have time, not sure where to find stuff. When stuff is found, not sure if its credible or not.
