Module 15. 3 - anxiety, depressive, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Anxiety disorders - a category of disorders involving fear or nervousness that is excessive, irrational, and maladaptive. Anxiety can be good sometimes: occurs in flight or fight response - energize us to respond to actual threats to our survival. Anxiety is unjustifiable, and is longer in duration. Generalized anxiety disorder (gad) - involves frequently elevated levels of anxiety, generally from the normal challenges and stressed of everyday life: unstable and irritable moods. Panic disorder - an anxiety disorder marked by occasional episodes of sudden, very intense fear: anxiety in short segments, but much more severe o. Panic attacks - elevates when fear of death causes increased arousal: agoraphobia - resulting from an intense fear of having a panic attack in public. As a result of this fear, the individual may begin to avoid public setting and increasingly isolate themselves. Phobia - severe irrational fear of a very specific object or situation.
