Relation to truth - "i believe it"s raining" Can we hold on to a belief that we think is true, but we know it"s false. Beliefs are aimed towards the truth, but may lose track in the process. Assent to the claim; say it is true. Suspension of judgment; ex) "i can"t say" Attributes of a thing that make i good, or perform function well. Beliefs or sets of beliefs can possess virtues. Belief (set) can lack some virtues, have others; degrees, absolutes. Vice: attitudes or attributes that make things bad - total opposite of virtues. Accurate beliefs aim to approximate the facts (when successful, they do) Degrees - truth = highest degree of accuracy. Ex) "ottawa is the capital of canada" Ex) "mark help out the most at home" All beliefs are either true or false but not both. Ex) "flin flon is manitoba"s capital" - false. Claim can be accurate without being true.
