Check insituion policy: may have clean/sterile procedure for sucioning/trach dressing change, peroxide and saline vs only saline, mask all the ime vs mask with goggles, ambubag oxygen, nasal prongs or mask, o2 by ambubag goes over the trach. Tortuous pathway that needs a wire-reinforced tube to make sure the airway is patent. Used in excessive tumor growth that has a potenial to collapse a standard tube/ occlude the opening. For when long pathway is required, needs longer tube. For when the tube size needed (peds) isn"t available with a cuf (portex size 6 and under have no cuf) Trach dilator at bedside for 7 days ater trach inserion. Extra trach tube at bedside at all imes. Trach ies should not be changed for irst 48 hours, 2 people required to change them. Doctor"s order needed for trach suture removal (about 5-7 days ater inserion) No trach care in irst 24 hours!
