Select and print a leonardo da vinci sketch at a size that is smaller than a page within your journal. Carefully cut out the image and paste it onto a clean left-hand page the facing page should be blank as this is where you will create a new drawing. Measure out and draw a grid over the picture you have pasted, and re-draw the same sized grid on the opposite empty page. The grid breaks down the image into small areas, and stops you second guessing how the lines should be drawn. You will be able to study the image in more precise detail, square by square. Copy the contents of each square onto the right-hand page to the best of your ability, considering line weight, shading, contrast, etc.
