Document Summary

Lecture 27: the above-ground portion of the plant includes the shoot system, stems, and leaves. The stem has a terminal and axillary buds. The vascular tissue can also be arranged in a circular ring formation, with the center containing the pith within the ground tissue: the root system is a part of the below-ground portion of the plant. It also has the three tissue systems: the angiosperm sporophytes are the most advanced of the plant systems. This means continuous growth throughout the life of the plant growing new tissue, organs and developing the shoot and root systems with new tissue every year. Every year a tree will grow taller: with animals, growth is not continuous. Growth ceases after maximum growth is attained (fat can be accumulated and wounds can be healed): at the cellular level, growth is like that in animal cells. Cytokinin has a role in cytoplasmic division: for plants, the start of growth is with the zygote.
