London rags and riches 1st in class meeting: If you"re really well off, you would want to be in a country with low social mobility. If you"re disadvantaged, you would want to be in a country with high social mobility. Where is the american dream easiest to achieve: denmark, australia, norway, finland, canada, sweden, netherlands, spain, france, usa, italy, uk. Social mobility is lower in more unequal (income) countries: denmark high social mobility and low income inequality, canada high social mobility and high income inequality, usa low social mobility and high income inequality. Accent article: kids need to adapt and adopt new accents, not speaking wrong in terms of grammar but speaking wrong in terms of sound. Idea was that it"s not a bad thing for them to change the way they speak but they didn"t like the idea of how they were looked at smart way vs. stupid way instead of better way.
