SOC 2760 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Margo Wilson, Dawna Range, Sociobiology
Document Summary
We have seen in the previous unit that children are most at risk of being killed by those who are supposed to love and protect them the most their parents. That is not to say that men are not killed by their female inimate partners. However, men are more at risk of being killed by someone other than an inimate partner, such as acquaintances and strangers. Further, when female inimate partners kill men, research has shown that, more oten than not, there was a prior history of violence perpetrated by the male vicim against the female perpetrator. In short, the female perpetrator"s acions were oten in defense of herself and/or her children. As a result, this secion will discuss the gender-speciic nature of these killings and the strong associaion between non-lethal and lethal violence between inimate partners. Prior to the mid-1970s, litle atenion focused on violence between spouses or inimate partners.
