Document Summary

Deviance in the eye of the (power) beholder. Social rules and regulations aren"t a product of conesus/ harmony. Emerged from the people who have power and authority to make them. They"re a product of conflict and rep interest of the powerful. Institutions aka government police enforce those rules and benefit powerful groups. Order via domination- social order we aren"t the function of our consensus but the powerful seek their interest. Economic elite (bourgeoisies) create laws to protect the capitalist system and their interest. Poor and marginalized (proletariat) deviate and resist because of alienation and deprivation. Legitimacy through ideology (world view)- promote a certain way of thinking and we don"t question it we just rationalize it. If we go against it we are consider extremist. The system offers equal opportunity (only some can be successful in reality) This ideology becomes common sense (often via media) People in jail deserve it the people who make lots of money deserve it.
