Spousal violence is limiting because it doesn"t count for dating or ex-spousal. Ipv is a more speci c term, occurs between current or former inmate partner. Physical abuse: varies in how serious it is. Sexual abuse: only in 1983 that sexually assaulting ones wife was illegal. Economic abuse: victim becomes more dependent on the abuser , no access to money. Coercive controlling violence: pattern of controlling behaviour by abuser, emotional, usually more frequent and severe, it is the most likely type to lead to calls to police, shelters etc. The goal is to control ones partner and physical violence isn"t always serve. However, when it does it is usually incredibly violent . most often experienced by women. Situational couple violence: both men and women, it is the most common type of violence and happens from everyday encounters or arguments that go too far. They get heated and end up pushing or shoving.
