Examples: durkheim on suicide in time of change people are most likely to commit suicide (good or bad) also people who are married or rooted in a community are less likely to commit suicide. Those of the jewish religion are less likely to commit suicide than protestants etc: suicide in a comparative perspective. Seeing sociology marginality and crisis: people at the margins of social life are aware of social patterns that others rarely think about, periods of change or crisis encourage us to use the sociological perspective. The importance of global perspective: where we live shapes the lives we lead, ex. In southern ontario we have a lot of post secondary institutions, but other places in the world where there aren"t!
