Need to be able to look at answering questions from their point of view. There is no one right way to go through life. Nonmaterial culture: how we think we should be/act. Material culture: the things that we create within a culture. Culture shock: disorientation when experiencing an unfamiliar way of life. There is no natural way of humanity, however each individual/community believes that they are going though life the right" way. Symbols: anything that carries a particular meaning recognized by people who share a culture (i. e. the apple symbol on macbooks, iphones, ipods, etc. ) Society can create new symbols all of the time. Reality for humans is found in the meanings that things carry with them. Language: is a system of symbols that allows people to communicate with one another.
