Lawrence kohlberg applied piagets approach to stages of moral development: preconventional rightness according to our individual needs, conventional moral reasoning takes account of parental attitudes/cultural norms, post conventional reasoning allows us to criticise society itself. Carol gilligan found that gender plays an important part in moral development: males rely more on abstract standards of rightness, females rely more on the effects of actions on relationships. George herbert mead: self part of our personality and includes self-awareness and self-image.
