Learning objecive: understand the process of conducing ield research. Observe people in small social seings over a small or large period of ime. Used to see who will purchase or use the product. Ethnography: describing a culture and understanding another way of life from your own perspecive (interpreive school) Specialized and highly detailed analysis of micro-situaions (transcripts, conversaions, videotape). Analyze behaviour, mannerism, language: we are all ethno-methodologists! Everyone is a ethno-methodologists with there every day interacions. There are several steps (pg224: begin with a general topic (group) and not a speciic hypothesis, fun and exciing (interesing or passionate, researchers can be very involved or uninvolved in what they study. Introverted or extraverted: small scale social research, group, subculture, social seings. Police department, sports team, bar: choose a group that you can gain access to. Some people do not want to be studied (homeless, criminals, deviants)
