The study of society that focuses on the need for social change. For marx the point is not to study the world as it is, but to change it: the help it for the better, making value judgements, rejects what weber talks about being value free. Exploitation or injustice: undermine legitimacy of those who are treated unjustly. Understand the way reality is socially constructed: assumes we can understand the way society is socially constructed. People are not always aware of the rules by which they live: we"re not aware of how the rules of society work, the way society is organized, structural institutions can knock people down. Day care, gender equality, home life and work life etc. Analyze how particular ideas help to sustain authority relations that are inherently unjust or repressive: how sustaining authority relations continually give unjust opportunities. Activist approach tying our knowledge of technology with action.
