PSYC 2390 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Contact Lens, Visual Search, Railways Act 1921
Document Summary
Registering edges takes time: when you have two images too quickly, then it mixes them. Stage 1: low level vision (pre-attentive: finding discontinuities in the image, categorizing the discontinuities ( nding features) Visual search test: you hit a key when you see the target (red line) there is a yes key and a no key measures how long it takes people to hit the key. Example; in class when we yelled when we saw lines or not: group the disconnected contours. Effortless texture segregation: when lines are of the same orientation or colours and have the same features as one another. Illusory contour features: (kinizsa triangle) when there is a blank spot in an image and your visual system is adding information to ll in the blank. Example; (l is bottom to the right and t is top in the middle) these differ in terms of spatial recognition even though they have the same features.
