Physical proximity plays a large role in attraction and relationship formation. We like those who are physically attractive. We like others who are similar to us (physical, psychological, demographic characteristics) Weighing pros & cons for a romantic relationship. Research shows that people often desire romantic partners who share similar characteristics and who live in close proximity.
