Versions of asch"s experiment have been used all over the world. Conformity is higher in collective cultures compared to individualistic cultured. Conformity is higher when people have interdependent value. Conformity is higher in members of the community compared to students. When there is more than one link between individuals conformity is higher. Hunting and gathering societies and upper social segments of industrial societies, are low in conformity (triandis, 1994) Agricultural societies and lower social segments of industrial societies are high in conformity (triandis, 1994) Berry (1979) correlated the degree of interdependence with the sample"s position on an eco cultural dimension. He found a correlation of 0. 70 between eco-cultural dimension of self-reliance and independence or nonconformity (berry, 1979) Obedience is conformity in response to the commands of an authority figure. 65% of teachers continued experiment when told even though the learner wanted to stop.
