Primarily, people think psychology is simply based off of sigmund freud and the mental illnesses they see in movies, such as. Based off of the different areas/fields of psychology, there is a range of careers that open up. (ex: working with older adults, soldiers, veterans and families, neuropsychology, courtroom expertise, etc ) The purpose of what psychologists do is to show how complex human behaviour is and how challenging it can be to try and understand it. Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour, thought, and social/environmental factors. The scientific aspect, looks at answering questions objectively based on observable facts, data, and established. The behavioral aspect, observes the actions of people. The mental processes aspect looks at the thoughts, feelings, sensations, perceptions, motivations, dreams and subjective experiences.
