Discussion circles: in groups we talk about the themes of that week. Make 1-2 page report about what was discussed. What elements need to be present for a country to be democratic. Public policy: the basis/principles on which social laws are created. Characteristics of global south countries that come to mind: corruption, inequality, instability, violence, oppression, poor infrastructure, financial instability. Global north has: high levels of inequality, poorer than north, lower standard of living, most have democratized more recently, weak institutions. Divide north and south to make it easier to study; there are certain regions that have many of the north"s characteristics although they"re still part of the. Countries of global south tend to have similar characteristics, but they are not all the same. They are grouped together to help study methods. Countries at top of hdi scale are global north countries (norway, can, us, Very small, 0. 075 difference between lowest & highest global north countries.
